5 Ways to Make a Home More Cozy

September 18, 2017

I love being home!  The air is getting cooler — not cool, but less humid — and I can feel fall on the horizon.  We’re ready to start sporting our sweaters and we bought the sweetest lumberjack hat for the baby this weekend.  We’re off to a family wedding in Portland, Oregon at the end of the week so will have our first taste of the change in weather there.  In the meantime, we’re braced and ready with these items which I always keep handy to make our home feel as cozy as possible.   The first is a cashmere throw! I have a collection of them and I wrap up in them every night.  I keep them on the foot of every bed for guests who might like to nap and on the backs of our sofas, too.

The second is candles — scented and unscented.  You might have guessed that I have a thing for candles and am always on the hunt for new classic scents.  I love BAIES and always come back to it.  I also love this.  For unscented, I stock up on votives and tapers and always have a hearty collection on hand.   Third, I love having flowers in the house, particularly Orchids which I pick up at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.  They last such a long time and are elegant and beautiful, particularly when you put them in a pretty container with moss.  Pretty picture frames is my next suggestion — it should come as no surprise to me as a photographer how important it is to have family photos around the house but they truly do mean more than anything.  My mother gave me a birthday present of two photos of our family from our favorite beach Club 55 and they are some of my most treasured memories.  I love simple silver ones and mother of pearl too.

Last but not least, you know how I feel about votives and candlesticks!!  I love collecting them — these aren’t pictured but are my absolute favorite. I also love the simple mercury votives from Pottery Barn.   More soon! xx
