With the lovely spring weather setting in, we spent as much of this past weekend as possible outside. We kicked off Friday night (and my mother’s arrival) with an intimate dinner outside on the front porch. Since we do not have a dining table outside, I pulled a desk from upstairs which suited but is very narrow and didn’t allow much space for a centerpiece. I find that people actually don’t mind being squished together — it adds to the intimacy of the dinner. Don’t be afraid to use your normal plates & glasses too, even if they’re really filling the space.
I love adding shells or other fun things for people to play with during dinner if there is no room for flowers. The only thing that you really need is candle light (and wine!) and the rest is bonus. The plates and glasses are the perfect addition to the table — they make it feel rich and interesting without any fuss. It’s a beautiful shade of blue. The candle lamps were a wedding present and add instant sophistication; they usually sit pride of place on our mantlepiece and are exceptionally special.
I am afraid I am such a uniform dresser; once I unlock a piece in my closet, I end up wearing it several days in a row or often in one week (if it’s clean — I wouldn’t do this with a shirt unless it was cleaned between). The piece of this week has been this long lost white skirt, which I absolutely love. It is fun to wear with a white linen shirt in the daytime or to dress up in the evening with some pretty sparkly jewelry and a crisp oxford. You can’t see until the last photo but I also have been living in those raffia slides!!
I have been busy organizing our house this weekend with my mom (thank goodness for her, she set up the whole upstairs family room/playroom on Sunday which I will show on stories) but have also been working on next business steps with her which I am excited to reveal one by one!! Did I tell you that we gave a talk on growing your social last week? Write to me if you need help with brand management, I really love lending an extra pair of eyes! xx
