Building a French-Inspired Wardrobe

February 19, 2018

This is my favorite time of year in Charleston (or at least we’re just coming up to it!).   It’s beautiful, balmy and I’m already whipping out my summer clothes.   As I unpacked my old friends, I was pleased to see that I still love most everything that I invested in last summer.    My goal when shopping is to try to prioritize pieces that will work for more than one season, hopefully many to come.  I am increasingly aware of how comfortable my clothes are (not in the sense of dressing down for comfort but not wearing fussy pieces which need a lot of tweaking).   I also like to pull myself together quickly to be out the door and into the day as efficiently as possible.  Lots of lovely neutrals are key in this case, and I try to stick to natural fibers: linen, cotton, cashmere, silk, etc.

When I think about a French-inspired wardrobe (I’m envisioning the South of France summer vibe vs. Parisian), it’s easy, feminine, light in color.    While we’re there, I live in bathing suits and breezy cover ups, simple skirts and white tee shirts, dresses, linen shirts and jean shorts.   Honestly most of the time I’m barefoot but I’ll slide into espadrilles if we’re heading into town.

I love the idea of collecting some special pieces as well as those which will be so useful for everyday, like the white wrap skirt seen below.  I wore this similar skirt SO much last summer, here’s another example.
