We’re off to New York next week to host a Holiday Decorating Workshop and Wreath Giveaway with The Mine and Erin Swift from Holiday Workroom, we would love for you to join us!! The details are at the end of the post but the first 50 people to RSVP will also take home a free wreath which is always fun. I love Erin’s style, she’s going to be guiding through how to decorate for the upcoming season. We’ve taken our first whack at preparing the house for the holidays below but I’m sure we will learn a lot! I would be so thrilled to see all of you there 🙂
Thank you to my dear friend (and professional florist) Anne for making me look good by giving me this wreath — made from scratch mind you! It’s pretty amazing. I couldn’t help but pick up these beautiful peachy poinsettias for the front which are a lovely departure from bright red (which I also love but these plants are quite durable so these will last nicely and suit the new year). Last but not least, I am in love LOVE with my new jeans which I picked up from Hampden today. It’s a brand they just started to carry and they are SO comfortable (I need high rise). I sized up from a 27 to a 28 because there is no stretch…really thrilled about them!
Join us at The Mine Pop Up at Lowe’s Chelsea (19th street and 6th avenue) at 5pm — the first 50 people to RSVP will win a free wreath! RSVP to [email protected] — can’t wait to see you xx
I recently discovered what a luxury pajama sets are and have been looking for a beautiful pair of classic cotton monogrammed pajamas. A new friend introduced me to Petite Plume who make sophisticated and oh so cozy (and very reasonable!!) pajama sets for the entire family and I was thrilled to be able to monogram a pair for each of us before Christmas. The baby looks particularly dashing in his…!
We have been home for a longer stretch and have finally buckled down and started working on the house. Even though we moved in nearly two years ago, with all the travel and starting a family, it has fallen low on our list. Some of you know that my mother very generously lent us a closet full of my grandmother’s things which we’re finally starting to pull out and strategically place around the house. We hung up the mirrored Japanese ladies behind us to create a feel of an extended headboard and I have to say that I really love it. I can’t wait to show you more (we hung up curtains and painted, too).
When Will and I met (pre-baby), we used to have a lot of breakfast in bed. It’s something we still try to do from time to time but really our bed has become a place for the three of us to rest, laugh and play. Baby R loves jumping around on it and we have been practicing petting the cats gently, too. Needless to say, it is such a luxury to be wrapped up in our cozy pajamas as a family. I highly recommend it! xx
I have been impatiently waiting for Thanksgiving to pass before decorating the house for Christmas and now we’re finally here! We had a lovely time with my father’s family over the holiday. This was our second year hosting Thanksgiving and we have been working on stopping and marking the holidays in full for Baby R. He’s only sixteen months but he really enjoys it, and our goal is to make his childhood as magical as possible. I have been waiting to unleash this table from Juliska for ages — they are one of my favorite homeware companies (we used for our wedding) and their holiday collection is superb!!
I grabbed these beautiful gold placemats a few months ago and have used them on every special occasion since (still need to get the silver which would be perfect for New Year!). They are delicate and tasteful and make any table sparkle. I love how festive they are paired with the Christmas plates and tartan napkins!! These champagne glasses are also so beautiful and perfect to collect for many special occasions ahead (would make an excellent Christmas present as well). A simple garland adorned with pinecones (from Michael’s!) and lots of votives complete this holiday table look.
I live in Rhode Resort in summer and dark green silk is the perfect attire for a holiday party, I also love this red velvet. Comfortable, sexy and easy to wear, it is my favorite dress for this season — well picked Hampden Clothing!! And of course the earrings are a must xx
I love holidays (who doesn’t?). I know that we’re still pre-thanksgiving but a dear friend sent me my favorite Christmas candle and I am already in the mood. The weather is chillier and grey here and we’re enjoying cozy evenings at home by the make-shift fire. I was thrilled to ship out a few large pieces from our Caribbean series this week and of course, I am so grateful for the charitable contributions. As a reminder, we’re still donating 100% of our net proceeds to hurricane relief in the Caribbean until the end of hurricane season, November 30th.
We printed this piece for our home and I was thrilled to hang it pride of place above the fireplace. Believe it or not, it’s surprisingly neutral considering it’s vibrant tones. The depth of the image is amazing and the framer we are working with is top-notch. I am excited to introduce custom framing with linen matting shortly — but do e-mail in if interested!
I know that I promised an end of season wedding round up but I have been waiting because the last wedding we photographed was in New York with my dear old friend Harley (who’s dress I wore here) and will be debuting on Vogue.com soon. Her mother was so generous to send us a box of gardenias this week as a thank you — it was the MOST lovely surprise and such a luxurious present. Gardenias are one of my favorite flower and scents and these made the whole house smell incredible! This box of gardenias is now top of my list for holiday presents; it’s the perfect thank you or thinking of you gesture and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
And of course, last but not least, my FAVORITE candle-line Feu De Beaumont with these amazing long matches in the beautiful painted tin box makes such a chic and easy present to give. Jasmine is my favorite scent although I have yet to order the Gardenia and know that I would love it! I like to keep lots of these in the present cupboard for last minute gifts but you can get them monogramed or inscribed for a more personal touch. They come from England and are so worth the shipment — stock up!! I also love the diffuser and finds that it lasts for ages!!
I have been collecting gold and cream pieces for the holiday season. It started after my love affair with green kicked in this fall, and I felt that it would be really pretty to set a gold and green table. This is the evolution of said project, and it has melted into cream and gold, which I feel is softer, very elegant and sophisticated without feeling too stuffy. You could easily replace the pumpkins for feathers (and maybe pinecones) for a Thanksgiving look, or dress it up a bit more with sparkly gold napkin rings, clementines and a garland for Christmas, maybe even some poinsettias in the background. I ordered these placemats in the mail and I LOVE (I mean LOVEEEEEEEE) them, I plan to collect the silver too. They will last for so many seasons; they are timeless, classic, festive pieces and the first thing I would grab off of this table. Trust me, so grown up!!!! I also LOVE these glasses, they are very pretty and and on sale!!
It hasn’t exactly been “fall” in Charleston so I was particularly excited to find these leaves at the florist; we are bringing the seasons forward at home! Those of you who live in the Northeast or somewhere the leaves are turning could easily forage a few bunches outside, I find it a very elegant and easy way to fill a large vase; whether it sits on the entrance or dining table, it provides a lovely backdrop.
These marbleized glass pumpkins are also so pretty and not too trendy (so will work well next year). They make a pretty flowerless centerpiece on the table but also sit well on the mantle surrounded by votives. We wrapped these white (real) pumpkins in gold balloons to create a “dipped” effect which I think works quite well. I would advise grabbing some larger balloons if you are trying it on a normal pumpkin! xx
I am definitely getting into the holiday spirit! This time last year we were sneaking out for our first date and evening without the baby. Will’s birthday falls at the end of the week and I remember sitting in the restaurant fretting about leaving our little one behind, perhaps drinking a bit too much wine to make up for my anxiety ;). This year, our baby is racing around and it is such fun to take the holiday decorations over the top to make it a magical experience for him. We already adorned our steps but added some carved (and drilled) pumpkins to our front porch to make sure that we’re really capturing the essence of Halloween. And because fall hasn’t arrived in town yet, we added a few fake leaves from Michael’s…! Michael’s is amazing, and I am afraid I already have Thanksgiving and Christmas in mind because they had all their decorations out.
(Popping the champagne to celebrate a long, vigorous pumpkin carving session!!)
I am particularly proud of my feather-headed friend pictured above. It has been a few years since I carved a pumpkin and let me tell you, the technology has advanced! They now offer battery operated carving devices (wow) and we also discovered that a drill can be very helpful, especially with the simpler patters, like the dots and lines. Those pumpkins are filled with Christmas lights for an extra glow, an excellent trick which adds some much-needed punch.
I think the long and the short of it is, don’t be afraid to go big! Pumpkins are plentiful, and you don’t have to carve every one. We’re planning to make some pumpkin-filled recipes with our heirlooms but for now, they’re excellent decoration and the perfect mood-setters to mark the start of a fun holiday season. xx . P.S. I am in my favorite loafers, linked here!!!
