Dream Life: Tropical Brunch on Gadsden Street

March 12, 2018

We had the great pleasure of exploring the gardens (and inside) of beautiful 19 Gadsden Street last week.

It’s such a rare treat to be invited behind the walls into the sprawling gardens of a home in downtown Charleston, and an even bigger treat to meet such lovely, welcoming and elegant owners who have created a dream home here in town.    Decorated by the impeccable interior design skills of the current owner, 19 Gadsden is full of light, high-ceilings, beautiful wallpapers, hardwood and a spectacular kitchen.    Beyond the house, the jaw-dropping garden seems endless, with a seating and dining area and a beautiful breeze.   It’s just lovely, and it is for sale…!

As it was one of our first sunny days in town after the cold snap, we found it the perfect opportunity to set a sweet casual brunch table in the garden.   I  have been itching to have brunch outside and to use my brand new tropical melamine plates which are so pretty, fun and perfect for spring and summer.   Loaded with birds and flowers, and in my favorite colors, I couldn’t resist adding them to my collection.  They would be fun paired with a subtle block print table cloth, loads of candles for evening or a simple seaside soiree.    In this instance, I borrowed from the owners extensive topiary collection (and am now planning to mimic this at home) and piled our tropical plates with lots of fruit: papaya, melon, berries and blood oranges.   I rarely miss an opportunity to have a croissant, and so of course we had those too.   It reminded me of our summers in France, and made me feel even more excited to get there early this summer.

This is the second time I have used these blue glasses which I adore, they are surprisingly versatile.  I also used these new plastic ones which are so subtle, they look strikingly glass-like and are so light weight.

How funny that plates ended up matching my new favorite skirt, I guess I have a ‘type’ — I have been living in this one and my new rainbow one,  it pairs well with a sweater, button down or just a white tee shirt!  They are so comfortable to spend the entire day in and make you feel pulled together at the same time.  Highly recommended!

Thank you again for letting us into your beautiful home.    This is a MUST see if you’re looking for a property in town.  I would snatch it up in a heart beat if I could! xx
