Screened in Porch Reveal!

September 8, 2017

Last year, Will and I turned this back deck into a screened in porch.  We love indoor/outdoor living and wanted this to be a shady place for us to hang all year long without worrying about mosquitos or weather.   I am surprised that it took us this long to furnish it properly! With all the travel and the arrival of a baby, this year has been a whirlwind, but I am so glad that we have finally pulled it together.  I think one of the holdups for me was selecting the right furniture that would make the space both cozy and functional.  I wanted to be able to lounge outside but also to have long, candlelit dinners all in this smaller space.  I thought at first about wicker furniture, but with the humidity, I think it wouldn’t withstand too many wet seasons.  I was so pleased then to stumble across these pieces from Stori Modern.  They are so comfortable, durable, lightweight and chic — I love this cream/gray combination which suited the feeling of this space but they also come in lots of fun color combinations so are totally customizable!

We set up a mini ‘living room’ with these two chairs, table and love seat (by the way all of these pieces are currently on sale and I can’t recommend them more highly enough!).   I love that I can bring my laptop out here during the day to do some work but also host friends — it’s now the first place we take our guests for a cocktail when they arrive.

We also selected this dining table and four chairs in matching grey but I also love the shades of blue and green on offer.  Because our space is quite tight, I wanted the furniture to match.  When we’re not using the table for four people, we sit it against the wall with two chairs and use the other two around the porch — it is extremely versatile and is the perfect neutral set up to go with all of our plants and all of our blue and white patterns and prints.

Last, Will and I hand stenciled the floor to create a feel of a painted carpet to complement the shades of the furniture.   I wanted it to feel more elaborate than just an outdoor rug, with many layers of texture and pattern.  I grabbed a giant outdoor stencil from Michael’s — we will keep you posted on how it lasts! Hoping it is durable because I hope that we will be enjoying lots of time out here this fall. xx
