Set the Scene, Prep Your Space (Physical & Mental!)

Thanksgiving is no doubt, very, very different this year. If you’re safe, well and staying home (which we hope very much that you are on all three accounts), we want to help you infuse big party magic into your downsized celebration.

Whether there is one of you or you’re the head of a bustling household and things feel unrelenting, we want to help you have memorable, successful holiday which leaves you feeling that something good came from this crazy year.

I touched on this before but, the temptation might be to just say let’s skip it this year. Instead, we gently encourage you to honor what a difficult time this has been for the world, find a way to celebrate, to make it special no matter what size your unit is. There’s still time to put the effort in and we believe that it will be more than worth it.

Many of us have been stuck in our houses since Spring, let’s freshen things up: make it smell nice with a holiday candle or fresh potpourri, cook something we’ve never made before, try a new drink, a new playlist, a new sweater. Let’s make some arrangements, re-fluff, cozy up in a blanket with a new puzzle or game, series or book.

THE BIG, DEEP CLEAN

I think this is actually the best way to make your home feel cozy, to fall back in love with it. It’s the basis for sanity and coziness at home. It’s certainly made more fun with a rockin’ playlist — I personally love euro techno and motown. This is when we air out the house, change all the sheets, dust, hoover, mop, scrub and make it sparkly.

LAYER IN LOVELY SMELLS, TEXTURES AND TWINKLING LIGHTS

Candles, potpourri, fresh fleurs. Cozy cashmere, tea lights abounds. We are getting to the holiday scented candle season, and i’m excited.

PLAN YOUR MENU, STOCK THE FRIDGE & PANTRY!

Whether you’re going to attempt a proper Thanksgiving, adapt your routine it with some unexpected sides or just make a beautiful but unexpected meal, time to make the plan for the week. Our menu is pretty much laid out in the sides section of this guide, we have tasted it a few times and think it’s reliably yummy.

UP YOUR COCKTAIL OR MOCKTAIL GAME

I had never had a gold rush before. Turns out it’s delicious. Change it up, mark the occasion and embrace the festive spirit (*alcohol not required).

GET FESTIVE WITH YOUR FROCKS & PAMPER THYSELF

Get your household dressed up for dinner, swipe the lipstick on, tame those locks! This year definitely calls for face masks at a minimum (i’m talking about the moisturizing kind!!). Why not treat your bedroom like a hotel with fluffy robes, new bath salts, chocolates and flowers by the bed?

GET OUTSIDE

This is our first proper winter in six years. It’s been absolutely breathtaking on Island. Walking outside every morning has been a daily goal. We have been grabbing foliage, holly and berries from our walks and getting a head-start on festive decorations.

Holidays are about celebrating what we have, and what is right here in front of us: our homes, our families our neighborhoods. We’re feeling unbelievably lucky to be able to look at these breathtaking beaches and long winding paths and epic red clay cliffs.

NEW TUNES

We’re going to continue adding holiday playlists to our Spotify this week and will be sure to mark the mood on the title so that you can feel good all week long. Music is my favorite things, feel free to send recommendations! Collaborative effort.
